Choose the Right Medium for Your Technique

Global Colours offers products for every stage of acrylic painting. Choose a fluid medium to change flow, transparency or drying time. Use gels and pastes to build body and texture. Gesso prepares the painting surface. Varnishes and top coats adjust the final sheen and protection. Binder, sealer and glue products support surface preparation, collage and mixed-media work. Always check the individual product directions. Mixing ratios, drying times, suitable surfaces and application methods vary across the range.

Create Fluid Art with Pouring Medium

Pouring Medium helps acrylic colour move smoothly across a surface. It creates a self-levelling, high-gloss finish for pours, marbling and other fluid-art techniques. Mix it with Global Colours acrylic paint or apply the medium to the canvas before adding colour. Cover the full surface to reduce the risk of cracking as the artwork dries. Keep It Simple Pouring Medium provides another option for artists who want a straightforward fluid-art system. Avoid over-diluting pouring mixtures with water. Follow the selected product instructions for mixing, temperature and drying time.

Change Transparency, Flow and Drying Time

Glazing Medium increases the flow, spread and transparency of acrylic colour. Use it to build translucent layers, soften colour transitions and create wet-look effects. Open or Slow Drying Medium gives you more time to blend and work with acrylic paint. Add it sparingly for wet-on-wet painting, smooth transitions, folk art and techniques that need a longer open time. Fabric Medium converts compatible Global Colours acrylic paint for use on suitable ironable fabrics. Mix it with colour, test the fabric first and heat-set the finished design according to the product instructions.

Add Body and Texture with Gels and Pastes

Regular Gel Gloss adds body, transparency and shine. Mix it with acrylic colour or use it to build glossy textured layers. Impasto Medium supports thick brushwork and palette-knife marks. It also helps extend acrylic colour while retaining a heavier consistency. Use 3D Modelling Paste for firm, opaque and heavily built-up texture. Apply it with a spatula or palette knife. Build deep effects in separate layers and let each coat dry before adding more. Choose Iridescent Medium when you want to add pearlescent shimmer and reflective highlights to acrylic colour.

Prepare Surfaces with Gesso and Primer

Gesso seals and prepares suitable surfaces before painting. It creates a more consistent ground and helps acrylic or oil colour grip the surface. Choose White Gesso for a traditional bright base. Black Gesso provides a dark starting point for dramatic artwork and metallic colour. Fluid Gesso helps create a smoother ground. Heavy Body Gesso adds more visible texture. Studio Gesso offers a practical option for schools, workshops and regular surface preparation. Apply several thin coats and let each one dry before adding the next. Light sanding between coats can create a smoother finish.

Adjust the Final Sheen and Surface

Gloss and Matte Medium Varnishes can change the sheen of acrylic colour while you paint. Artists can also use them as final clear coatings on suitable flexible acrylic artwork. Polyurethane varnishes provide gloss or matte finishes for rigid surfaces. Check the individual directions before applying them, as these products do not suit every substrate. Binder & Sealer helps seal porous surfaces and can also adjust the flow, transparency and flexibility of acrylic paint. Select the finish according to the artwork, surface and level of sheen you want.

Choose Sizes for Artists, Schools and Studios

The range offers products for individual artists, classrooms, workshops and high-volume studios. Choose smaller containers when testing a product or working on occasional projects. Larger sizes suit frequently used mediums, shared spaces and bigger artworks. Selected products come in sizes from 250ml through to larger studio and education formats. Available sizes vary, so check each product page before ordering. Global Colours manufactures its acrylic paints, mediums and gesso primers in Marrickville, Sydney.
